Shockwave therapy cost and what ACC covers
One of the first things people want to know is what shockwave therapy will cost and whether ACC pays for it. Here is the straight answer, with the numbers laid out so there are no surprises when you arrive.
How shockwave is charged
Shockwave is added to a standard physio appointment rather than charged as a standalone visit. That is because we assess and treat you in the same session, and the physio consult is part of getting the result. The shockwave portion itself is a fixed fee per session on top of the consult. If you are likely to need several sessions, a pre-paid package brings the per-session cost down.
What ACC covers, and what it does not
If your injury is ACC covered, ACC contributes to the physiotherapy consult, which reduces what you pay for that part. ACC does not cover the shockwave treatment itself, so that portion is payable regardless. We register and manage the ACC claim for you, so the only thing you need to do is turn up. If you have private health insurance, you may be able to claim the physio portion under your policy.
How many sessions you are likely to need
Most people need a course of treatment rather than a single session, because the tendon or tissue needs time to repair. We will give you a realistic estimate after assessing you, so you can weigh up whether a pre-paid package makes sense for your situation before you commit to it.
